A First Day in Two Ways

Today marks the beginning of two brand-new chapters in my life. Two firsts that feel both exciting and a little nerve-wracking.
Water Fasting – Day 1 I’ve been curious about fasting for a while now, and today I’m finally giving it a go. A friend of mine has done several fasts and recommended it – both for the physical and mental effects. My goal is to lose some weight, but also to reduce my constant hunger and regain better control over my eating habits.
There are two reasons I want to lose weight: one, I don’t feel entirely comfortable with how I look at the moment; and two, I want to feel light and free again – to be able to run without feeling heavy.
So today I’m starting a 7-day water fast. Just water, nothing else. I’m really curious to see how my body and mind will respond.
What does the internet say about fasting? According to what I’ve read, fasting – especially longer water fasts – may offer several potential health benefits. Some studies and many personal experiences suggest it can help the body clean out damaged cells (a process called autophagy), reduce inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, and support weight loss. But it’s also clear that fasting isn’t for everyone, and it’s important to listen to your body. It requires rest, hydration, and patience.
First Night on the Boat The other “first” today is that I’m spending my very first night on the boat! There’s still a lot left to do inside – there’s no sofa or table yet – but the quarter berth is ready enough for me to sleep in, and that’s all I need right now. I have electricity, heating, and running water, so tonight should go just fine.
I’m actually lying in the quarter berth right now, writing this. It feels surreal but also totally right. This is the beginning of a life I’ve been dreaming about for a long time.
Have you ever tried fasting, or spent a night living on a boat? What was your first time like? Feel free to share in the comments!
